The Wheel of Life pt.1 – Main Areas of Life

The Wheel of Life Post Image

I’ve decided that I want to change my life. But “life” is such a vague word. Life is actually a complex system made up of different components — parts that can be very different from each other. In other words, life can be broken down into separate areas. As the ancient Romans said: “divide and conquer.”

Why break life into categories?

First of all, it helps me better analyze myself and my current situation.

Second, it allows me to set clearer and more specific goals — not just for “life in general,” but for each area separately.

And third, it’s just too overwhelming to try to change everything all at once. It’s like trying to move a mountain.

But when life is broken into parts, I can set priorities and take small steps — from the most important to the less urgent, from the basics to the more complex things.

What is the Wheel of Life?

This idea of dividing life into different areas isn’t something I invented. It’s a well-known self-development tool called the Wheel of Life.  You break your life into key categories, rate each one from 0 to 10, and look at where you’re doing well — and where you’re falling apart.

The idea is that for life to feel whole and balanced, all areas need to be developed and at least somewhat aligned. If one area is way behind, the wheel can’t roll smoothly — and life starts to wobble too.

How I divided my life

Everyone can create their own version of the wheel. I chose to keep it simple and picked 6 main areas:

  1. Mental & Emotional
My inner world: thoughts, emotions, beliefs, feelings, reactions — everything happening inside my mind.
  2. Body & Health
My body, health, energy, appearance, food, sleep, and movement.
  3. Relationships
My connections with others — family, friends, romantic relationships, coworkers.
  4. Work & Money
How I make money, how I use it, how I seek purpose and financial stability.
  5. Life & Growing Up
Becoming more self-reliant: habits, daily routine, adult responsibilities, independence, taking care of myself.
  6. Explore & Enjoy
The joyful part of life — hobbies, rest, fun, travel, creativity, new experiences.
What’s next?

I’ll create a separate category on my blog for each area. There, I’ll write honestly about how things really are in that part of my life — what’s wrong, what’s missing, and what I want to change.

Next steps: reflection, a plan, and gradual action.
